Roman Numerals by Thax Douglas
I was going through a notebook the other day and found the poem that noted Chicago rock and roll poet Thax Douglas delivered before our set at The Cobra Lounge last August. I thought I’d share it with you all.
ROMAN NUMERALS
a hunk
of metal stripped
of its turgidity
is now a scattering
of moving parts
but the graceful
swan-pistons
pushing each other
in & out of
the spotligh
miss the enormous
ego they
were all a part of,
not realizing a stopgap
symbol of
that ego is
standing at
the back of the
hall with
its arms
crossed.

He wrote a few great ones for Season to Risk back in the day. Always nice to see him at shows.
